Reflections on Directions EMEA: What’s New in Business Central Financial Reporting and How Exsion Keeps Adding Value

A Great Time in Poznań

This was my second Directions EMEA, but the first time attending with my team — and our very first year having a booth. It was a truly special experience to represent Exsion, share what we do, and learn so much from this inspiring community.

The atmosphere was incredible: a mix of ideas, innovation, and collaboration, all focused on driving Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central forward.

Thanks to my colleagues taking care of the booth, I was able to attend a few sessions, and one that caught my particular attention was the one about What’s new in Financial Reporting.

Why Financial Reporting Always Gets My Attention

Before joining Exsion, I worked in Group Financial Control and Consolidation, so financial reporting will always have a special place in my heart. Seeing how every improvement Microsoft introduces can help our customers simplify their reporting and increase compliance always excites me. And from the 2025 wave releases, a few updates really stood out to me.

Audit Trails: A Real Step Forward for Compliance

Anyone who’s worked through an audit season knows how challenging it can be to trace reporting changes. Keeping a clean, verifiable trail for external auditors often takes more time than producing the reports themselves.

That’s why it was great to see Microsoft introducing audit tracking for financial reporting definitions. This enhancement helps finance teams provide transparent documentation of every change made directly supporting compliance and accountability. It’s a small addition with a big impact, especially for organizations subject to strict reporting controls or consolidation requirements.

Multi-Currency Reporting: LCY and ACY Together

Another highlight was the introduction of multi-currency reporting, allowing users to display both LCY (Local Currency) and ACY (Additional Currency) in the same financial report.

This means that a company operating internationally can now easily compare figures between their base currency and reporting currency, without having to create multiple reports. It’s a big win for controllers and finance leaders managing global operations.

Opening and closing paragraphs

This might seem like a small design change, but it opens the door to more dynamic reporting: the report prepares can now include contextual comments – and I remember I used to do include a lot of these in my financial control days - for example, noting which figures are preliminary, highlighting significant changes, or adding explanations for fluctuations. This makes financial reports more informative and readable, moving closer to how finance teams communicate results to management and auditors.

Where Exsion Reporting Fits In

As exciting as these enhancements are, they don’t make Exsion Reporting any less relevant - quite the opposite. Business Central’s built-in financial reporting is becoming more capable, but Exsion continues to extend those capabilities in ways that make life easier for finance professionals.

With Exsion’s Refresh option, once you’ve built a report, you can reuse it as often as needed, which keeps it updated with the latest Business Central data in seconds.

One of my favourites, the Show Details function lets users drill down directly from Excel into Business Central, with all filters preserved, giving full traceability from summary to transaction.

And because Exsion connects to custom tables and personalized data, it provides the flexibility that standard reports sometimes can’t. In short, Exsion doesn’t compete with Business Central’s financial reporting — it complements it. Together, they form a powerful combination for organizations that value transparency, automation, and control.

Final Thoughts

Leaving Poznań, I felt truly grateful to be part of such an inspiring community and energized by all the meaningful connections made throughout the event. It was great to exchange ideas with so many passionate professionals who share the same drive to keep improving Business Central and the world of financial reporting.

In Exsion365, as we look ahead to 2026, we are really excited to see how this community continues to grow and evolve. Financial reporting is advancing fast, and tools like Exsion Reporting will keep playing a key role in helping companies turn data into confident decisions.
